Abendfokus (abendfokus.de) is an independent Swedish digital news publisher owned by Abendfokus Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009, Malta Business Registry). This page explains the editorial standards and processes that govern every piece of journalism we publish, from initial idea to final publication and, when necessary, correction.

What is our editorial process?

Every article on Abendfokus is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor and fact‑checked before publication. Our newsroom follows a structured workflow: story assignment, research and drafting, editorial review, fact‑checking, and final approval by a senior editor. Chefredaktör Thomas Bergmann has ultimate responsibility for all editorial content, supported by Redaktionschef Maria Braun, who oversees daily newsroom operations. For details on our team, see Our Team; for our fact‑checking standards, see Fact‑Checking Policy.

How do we distinguish between news, opinion, features, sponsored and affiliate content?

We label content categories clearly so readers can always tell what they are reading. News reports present verified facts without commentary; opinion pieces (including columns and analysis) carry a prominent label such as “Analysis” or “Opinion”. Features are longer, narrative or explanatory articles. Sponsored content is marked “Sponsored” or “Paid Content” at the top and bottom, and affiliate links are disclosed within the article. Our Sponsored Content Policy and Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure provide full details.

What article‑level transparency do we provide?

Each article includes the author’s name, the date of publication, and any update notices. If a correction is made, we append an editor’s note explaining what changed and why. Major corrections are also recorded in our Corrections Policy. This transparency allows readers to assess the reliability of every piece of reporting we publish.

How do we maintain independence?

Abendfokus is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing – but these commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. Our ownership, funding sources and disclosure practices are detailed in Ownership & Funding and Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure. No advertiser or partner has influence over story selection, angle or outcome.

What is our policy on artificial intelligence?

We may use AI‑assisted tools for research, drafting, formatting, translation, metadata, headline suggestions, summaries and transcription. Every piece of published editorial content is reviewed and approved by a human editor. AI must never fabricate quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, author experience or expert profiles. Our full approach is set out in the AI & Automation Policy.

Who is responsible for what we publish?

Every article carries the name of the writer who reported and drafted it, and the editor who reviewed it. The editorial team – Chefredaktör Thomas Bergmann, Redaktionschef Maria Braun, Politikredaktör Niklas Werner, Wirtschaftreporter Johanna Weiß, Kultur‑ och samhällsredaktör Maximilian Albrecht, and Fact‑Checking Lead Lisa Otto – each have defined responsibilities. For full biographies and contact details, see Our Team.

What you can expect from us

Readers of Abendfokus can expect journalism that is accurate, fair and independent. We commit to correcting errors promptly, disclosing any conflicts of interest, and clearly differentiating editorial content from commercial material. Our reporting aims to help readers understand Swedish news, politics, economy, culture and society without spin or oversimplification.

How do we handle complaints and corrections?

If you believe we have made an error or breached our editorial standards, please contact us via our Complaints Procedure. We investigate every complaint promptly and, where a mistake is found, correct it visibly and transparently. Our Corrections Policy outlines how corrections are published and logged.
