Abendfokus was launched in 2024 by Abendfokus Media Ltd. to address a specific gap: readers seeking clear, practical coverage of Swedish news, politics, economy, culture and society without the noise of sensationalism. Our tagline – “Nachrichten, Analysen und Hintergründe für Deutschland” – reflects our mission to serve both Swedish and international audiences with trustworthy journalism.
Why was Abendfokus founded?
Abendfokus was founded because Swedish news coverage often lacked the context that busy readers need to understand complex issues. Abendfokus Media Ltd. identified an opportunity to deliver concise, well-sourced reporting that cuts through spin.
In a media landscape saturated with breaking alerts and opinionated commentary, we saw a demand for journalism that explains the “why” behind the headlines without oversimplifying. Every article on abendfokus.de is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, and fact‑checked before publication. This process ensures that our readers can trust the information they receive.
Who is responsible for what we publish?
Thomas Bergmann, our Chefredaktör, sets editorial standards and oversees all publication decisions. He is supported by a dedicated team of editors and reporters, each responsible for a specific desk.
Maria Braun, Redaktionschef, manages the daily newsroom and headline review. Niklas Werner, Politikredaktör, covers riksdagen, regeringen and kommunpolitik. Johanna Weiß, Wirtschaftreporter, reports on ekonomi, marknader and hushållsekonomi. Maximilian Albrecht, Kultur- och samhällsredaktör, oversees kultur, livsstil and samhälle. Lisa Otto, Ansvarig för faktagranskning, leads fact‑checking, source verification and corrections. Full profiles are available on our /our-team/ page.
What you can expect from us
Readers can expect every article to carry a clear byline, transparent sourcing, and a commitment to correct errors promptly. Our editorial policy and sourcing standards are published for scrutiny.
We do not publish anonymous opinion pieces; every piece is attributable to a named writer. Sources are cited wherever possible, and when confidentiality is necessary, we explain why. Corrections are handled transparently according to our /editorial-policy/ and /corrections-policy/. For details on how we gather and verify information, see our /sources/ page.
How is Abendfokus funded?
Abendfokus is funded through display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships and content licensing. All sponsored material is clearly labelled.
Our funding model ensures that editorial decisions remain independent of commercial influence. No advertiser or partner can determine what we publish. For full details, including our registered company structure – Abendfokus Media Ltd., a private company registered in Gibraltar (company number C 92009) – please see our /ownership-funding/ page.
