Berichtigungspolitik

Abendfokus (abendfokus.de) is committed to accuracy in every article we publish. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly, transparently, and with a clear explanation. This policy explains how we handle errors, how you can report them, and what standards you can expect from our editorial team.

Who is responsible for corrections at Abendfokus?

Lisa Otto, our Ansvarig för faktagranskning (head of fact-checking), oversees all corrections at Abendfokus. She and her fact-checking team review every reported error, determine the appropriate correction, and ensure the change is published with a clear explanatory note. Thomas Bergmann, Chefredaktör, handles escalated cases.

Our corrections team operates independently from the newsroom, which guarantees objective handling of every report. For serious or complex errors, Thomas Bergmann makes the final decision. You can learn more about our editorial structure on our Our Team page.

How do I report an error?

You can report any error by emailing corrections@abendfokus.de. Please include the article URL, a description of the mistake, and your source information if available. Our standards desk reviews every submission carefully and aims to acknowledge receipt within one business day.

We also accept reports through our general contact address at info@abendfokus.de, but using corrections@abendfokus.de ensures your message reaches the right team directly. Every report is taken seriously, whether it concerns a factual error, a misattribution, or a misleading headline.

What happens after you report an error?

When we receive a correction request, Lisa Otto or a member of her fact-checking team assesses the claim against our editorial records and sources. If the error is verified, we publish a correction note at the top or bottom of the article detailing what was wrong and what has been changed.

For material errors — those that significantly affect the accuracy or fairness of an article — we update the text and add a dated correction note. Minor typographical errors that do not affect meaning are corrected without a note. Our fact-checking policy explains our verification standards in full.

What you can expect from us

You can expect a clear and honest response to every correction request you submit. We do not hide mistakes or make silent changes. Every substantive correction is labelled with a note, dated, and linked to our editorial policy. Our goal is to maintain trust through transparency and accountability.

We distinguish between corrections, clarifications, and updates. A correction fixes a factual error. A clarification adds context to prevent misunderstanding. An update reflects new information. Each is labelled accordingly. If we determine that no error occurred, we explain our reasoning to the person who reported it.

How quickly will we respond?

We aim to acknowledge your correction request within one business day. Substantive errors are typically corrected within two business days of verification. More complex issues may take longer, and we will keep you informed of progress throughout the entire process.

If we need additional time to investigate, we let you know. In cases involving legal or ethical questions, we may consult Thomas Bergmann or external advisers. We prioritise corrections that affect readers’ understanding of important issues. Read our editorial policy for more detail on our standards.

Questions or concerns?
